Winter Lecture Programme

Bromley Beekeepers Talks – Spring 2024

Back to pre-Covid ways, I hope, though it’s still about so be as careful as you can, we shall be holding “Winter Talks” at Kent House Road in the main clubhouse at 7.30 pm on the third Tuesdays of January till April, just like the good old times.

Here is the programme:

Tuesday 16th January

Grace Madden will talk on the Asian Hornet.  Anyone thinking in getting involved in the “Asian Hornet Action Team” for the coming season should view this evening as an essential.

Tuesday 20th February

An evening with Peter Springall. Not so much a talk, we have a copy of a mid 1970’s tv film, featuring Peter.  This will be followed up with a slide show of Peter’s own photographs. If you have any similar material and can bring it along as slides or on memory stick please bring along.

Tuesday 19th March

Danyal Conn, our local seasonal bee inspector will give round up of the asian hornet situation from the perspective of the National Bee Unit, drawing extensively on his own experience during the 2023 season.

Tuesday 16th April

Dr David Perkins is soon to see his book, “Hairy Foot, Long Tongue”, published. With a bit of luck it may well be published by by the time of this talk. As you may have guessed, the subject of both book and talk is one that David has long been involved with, the solitary bee. His drawings and photographs are a total delight, and his involvement with these creatures is long and deep. Be sure that you will be drawn in by his expertise and enthusiasm. Meanwhile, the first male hairy footed flower bees were seen in Bob Jackman’s garden on the 4th March. Keep a sharp eye open.

Hopefully all events will be followed by tea, cake and questions.

Bob Jackman
